Classroom Readings & Presentations
Kids of all ages love Norman and his friends - and we’d love to design an age-appropriate session to fit the needs of your classroom.
Custom Readings
Classroom sessions can be designed for students from Kindergarten through High School, and typically run 30-60 minutes, depending on the age of your students and whether or not you’d like to add other activities. A typical session includes:
Readings from the author! Cheryl will read the Norman books of your choosing to your students.
Music! When Cheryl plays Norman’s music videos, everyone usually gets up to dance.
Q&A, and usually, listening to the children’s stories about their own pets.
Don’t forget to ask about inviting some of Norman’s real-life friends (like Charlotte and Frieda, pictured above) or Nick the musician to attend and play Norman’s songs live.
Behind the Scenes
Cheryl’s ‘Behind the Scenes’ presentation is a hit with older scholars, starting at about 4th grade up through high school. This is a wonderful way to show kids how a storybook is designed, and even inspire budding authors! Choose from a variety of approaches, such as:
See how a storybook is designed from start to finish! Cheryl will share her initial storyboard drawings, the illustrator’s initial sketches, and the final picture in the book.
Q&A about the book writing process, the illustration process and/or the music development process.
Custom presentation based on your curriculum (from creative writing to branding to publishing, and everything in between!).
Bonus Content
We know the care you put into designing your classroom activities, and Norman wants to help. As a bonus to every classroom session, Cheryl will provide:
A prep session with you to design the right presentation for your class. Whether it’s a simple 30-minute reading and singalong, or an interactive session with your high schoolers, we’re ready to meet your needs.
Follow-up lesson suggestions to help drive home the lessons from the story, such as drawing exercises and free coloring pages.
An exclusive discount code for Norman’s books, for teachers to share with parents as added value if they see fit.
Classroom readings are always free, however author requests:
Email to be sent to classroom parents prior to reading.
Follow-up email to be sent after reading.
Emails to include a link to author’s website.
“We laughed and danced and talked about some important things. I loved the tenderness that comes through in the characters, and the children truly responded to that.”
— Andrea, 4th Grade Teacher
